Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live, the under-fire Hammers boss said: "We will go to the second leg as underdogs now but we will go there in good heart.
"I am confident, and I sense that we are going to score at Portman Road so they will have to score two, three or maybe four goals to win the match."
Like Royle however, Pardew was upset with referee Uriah Rennie who gave a harsh free kick against Thomas Repka which led to Towns goal: "He did us absolutely no favours at all. I was disappointed in him.
"We were aggrieved, because it seemed a soft decision. In a game like this you need consistency from a referee, and we didn't get it.
"He forced our wall to retreat more than 10 yards, yet in the second half when we had a free-kick there was no way the Ipswich wall was 10 yards away."
