Town boss Joe Royle was pleased to come away with a point: "We nicked a point, no doubt about it. I was trying to remember our second attack of the game and Preston were excellent and swarmed all over us.
"In the second half we did improve but the only good thing at half time was that it was only 1-0. I played a shock tactic from the start of the second half, using two substitutes but it was nearly three substitutes.
"James Scowcroft got a knock to his calf but was excellent and the referee will think again about the booking."
Meanwhile Preston boss Billy Davies thought his side deservedto win: "I thought we were robbed of three points and I was disappointed because our performance was very good.
"I thought we should have had a stonewall penalty and we didn't get what we deserved tonight.
"David Nugent is lively and can cause problems. He scored an excellent goal but I had to substitute him because his legs had gone."
Speaking of the injury to goalkeeper Gavin Ward following a tackle by Ian Westlake, Davies added: "Gavin Ward sustained a very bad facial injury and was unconscious and taken to hospital in an ambulance. I thought it was a late challenge on him.
"We have now lost two keepers in 24 hours but that's football. We may have to go into the transfer market but we will look at every option that is available because Andy Lonergan will be out for six to nine months."
