Town boss Joe Royle said after the game: "At the end it could turn out to be a vital point for us.
"We didn't pressurise their young goalkeeper enough and I spoke about that at half-time. Then we fizzed a corner in under the bar and scored from it. It's a fair tactic.
"Our defending and general energy were poor at times. I thought we played well in the first half without causing too many problems. It was only when Pablo (Counago) came on, that they started to play.
"We can only look to win our last three games now and see what happens. Sunderland would have already made it had they won, but I still see them going up. I was very impressed with them today.
"They are a good unit, very together, and I can see why they had a long unbeaten run before last week, but I was slightly disappointed with our own performance."
