Speaking after the game Royle said: "I thought we were terrific in the second half and can take a lot from the game. We played some great football and I'm proud of them.
"We have two of the relegated sides this week and it's a case of fine lines, certainly there wasn't much to choose between the teams.
"I'm disappointed at the outcome and the manner of it. The red card was more a tangle of legs, I don't think it was a goalscoring chance as the ball was going through to the keeper anyway. The game hinged on that one decision.
"I had words with the referee at half-time. He is an honest man and said he saw it as a deliberate foul by the last man. The linesman seemed more proactive at the time I thought, and he was a long way away.
"We started very brightly and were more than a match for them but are not having the breaks at the moment.
"We played some great stuff, but you have got to score goals, and at present we lack a bit of a cutting edge.
"But, there are a lot of positives to take out of the last two games, despite our injured and missing players."
